KVITOVA WINS IN DUBAI

Petra Kvitova has defeated Sara Errani of Italy in the final of Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship. Kvitova won the match by 6-2, 1-6, 6-1.

With the help of this title victory, Kvitova has moved up in the world rankings. Before the start of this tournament, her world ranking was 8 and now, she is at no. 7. This was the fourth match between these two players. In the previous three matches, Errani was defeated by Kvitova.

In the opening set, Kvitova was on fire. She let her opponent win only a couple of games and grabbed the set by 6-2, with the dominant performance helping to net her a bonus courtesy of sports betting firm Unibet.

Kvitova began well in the second set as well and broke Errani’s serve in the first game, but, after that, the Italian player turned things around completely. She levelled the scores with a serve break in the second game.

Errani won the next five games consecutively with the help of breakthroughs in the 4th and the 6th game and won the second set by 6-1.

After losing six games on the trot in the second set, Kvitova was under huge pressure at the start of the final set. In the first couple of games, both the players held their serve. In the third game, Errani was very close to getting a breakthrough. She had got three breakpoints, but, Kvitova managed to save all of them and ended up holding her serve.

After that third game, Errani lost the plot. She played some poor tennis in the remaining games and Kvitova managed to win the next four games in a row to secure her victory.

After the match, Kvitova said, “Sara had dominated in the second set and she had begun very well in the third set too, but, I just kept telling myself to continue fighting.”

“She lost three break chances in the third game of the final set and I think that was the turning point of the match.”
